Maasai Mara Safari

This is it. Africa. And the Safari Experience in Kenya you were looking for, but even better. 3 or 4 days, glamping or luxury accommodation, all down to you!

We don’t need to blow our own trumpet, so we are going to give you the facts, and let Cristina, past adventurer, give you the run down.

I just completed a safari with Voluntours Adventures. Amazing. Let me give you the details of what goes down and how it happens. Mine was a 3 day safari (no time for more, unfortunately) but there is an option for a 4 day trip, as well as a fantastic opportunity to do a balloon safari - who doesn’t want to see the Mara from the skies?

Here is how it happened – enjoy!

Day 1

Early morning (sorry, but it’s necessary) pick up from our accommodation. We drove to Maasai, and stopped along the way at the Great Rift Valley for some awesome pictures. We also made a little stop for snacks, and a big stop to visit the kids at the local Maasai School that Voluntours are proudly helping out with. We were so happy we had brought some donations but the kids were ecstatic!

After that, we went to the camp where we dropped off our stuff at the tent and got some nice Kenyan food.

The afternoon is spent learning about the Maasai culture, seeing the village where they live and getting a Maasai tattoo and some cow’s blood! They also took us on a trek around the village and showed us the plants they use for medicines and the surroundings of the village.

Dinner is back at the camp. We chilled out, played cards, sat by the fire and then headed off to bed.

Day 2

Thankfully, not such an early morning this time! After breakfast we headed to the Maasai Mara park for a full game drive. And yes, that means Safari.

Our guides for the whole trip were Tony and Izzo. They are young crazy guys that give you the most hilarious facts about the animals we chased all day.

We had a picnic lunch in the park (don’t worry, Tony checks there are no lions around).

After the super exciting day, we went back to camp for dinner. I have to say, this time you might want an early night since day 3 is another early morning. And there are so many photos to look at and back up that you want to give yourself time to do that. However, if you still have energy, people chill out around the place with a drink and chat.

Day 3

Yes, another early morning. But you will be happy to be up and about, especially when you see the sunrise in the Mara. It’s totally worth it!

We were in the park by 7 and left at around 9am to head back to the big smoke. We stopped along the way for lunch and we got home at around 6pm.

It was such an amazing once in a lifetime experience. It’s incredible to see all those animals on safari, in the wild, when we are so used to seeing them in zoos. Kenya is definitely a fantastic safari destination. And to be able to visit the school on the way to the safari was one of the highlights of my trip to Kenya. It’s hard to find a company that will show you around the real Kenya and give you a chance to give something little to the community.
